Grey Bruce Health Services - Wiarton Site
Emergency Services
The Emergency Department operates 24 hours, 7 days a week. It is particularly busy during the July and August tourism and summer camp season. Emergency is staffed by Ward Clerks, Registered Nurses, Registered Practical Nurses, and an on-call Physician. Physicians are paid for emergency work under an alternative payment plan.
Palliative Care
The South Bruce Peninsula FHO Physicians and GBHS staff are committed to supporting patients and families with excellent palliative care in hospital, hospice, or at home. There is a collaboration with Bruce Peninsula Hospice, CCAC, and many other organizations to facilitate this process.
Rehabilitation Services
Peninsula Physiotherapy and Sports Rehabilitation operates full-time at the Wiarton Hospital providing inpatient and outpatient care. They provide client-centred care in an evidence-based practice environment. Individualized assessment and treatment plans are administered based on unique needs and goals. Treatments they provide include:
- Repetitive strain and other injuries
- Sports injuries eg. knee and ankle sprains, tennis/golfer's elbow
- Motor vehicle accident (MVA) injuries eg. Whiplash Associated Disorder
- Pre- and post-surgical treatment
- Conditioning programs
- Balance training and falls prevention
A Rehabilitation Unit at the Grey Bruce Health Services, Owen Sound Site offers impatient rehabilitation with occupational therapy, speech language, physiotherapy services and recreation therapy.
The Owen Sound YMCA offers a physician-led cardiac rehabilitation program.
Diagnostic Imaging
Plain film X-Ray and ultrasound are available at the Wiarton Site. The Radiology Department at nearby Grey Bruce Health Services - Owen Sound Site offers plain film imaging, mammography ultrasound, CT, MRI, nuclear imaging and on-call general and interventional radiologists.
Bayside IDA Pharmacy
Bayside IDA Pharmacy is located on-site of the Wiarton Hospital. They offer advice and education regarding over the counter medications, vitamins, and prescriptions.
Regional Specialist Services
Grey Bruce Health Services - Owen Sound Site offers a full spectrum of specialist medical and surgical services.
